This was my first time climbing Mt. Meru (4,566M a.s.l). I did not give much thought to her or the challenge of exploring her. I thought she would be modest and kind. At least not arrogant. With the experience I had, I thought it would require minimum effort to convince her I am good people. It was also sort of a blind date with little information, but I knew she was shorter than some of my previous acquaintances. We had climbed Mt. Kenya the previous day and we had not had any decent rest; only resting on the move. We arrived in Arusha half past 3am. As soon as we set our bags down in some hotel, the driver called and we had to leave for the 2.5 hours drive for this blind date. We did not even take a shower. A few minutes to 7am the fun was underway. The introduction to this 90’s girl felt a bit easy and relaxed. The first thing I noticed was her unmistakable beauty. Lush and Thick. Natural. Unadulterated. She was welcoming. A true Dundori girl where potatoes and carrots are stable. There was this feeling that once you negotiate your way up and she extends a hand of acceptance, a relationship is inevitable, upende usipende! I was a little too excited. The first signs I had misjudged her came some 4kms in. The gradient changed. Drastically. I could feel the burn on the quads. I slowed down considerably. She noticed. Then she touched my thighs. From the look on her face, there was a little disappointment. Then we had a brief conversation... She: (Visibly trying to keep calm) “You were with another yesterday!” He: (Taken aback by her psychic powers, barely audible): “No. Why? I mean…” She: “Sigh! Really! Is that how you want us to start?” He: “I am sorry. Yes I have indulged quite a bit in the last 4 days but its not what you think” She: “What do I think?” At this point I realized she was not your ordinary Kienyeji. So I came clean. I told her about the other 3 I had been with for the last 4 days; and the possible 5th after her. She was going to be part of this polygamous arrangement, and I really needed her to ‘understand’. To work together with others to help this son of Teacher Mary become. We had a bit of a back and forth. Me trying to convince her. That she was the most beautiful and purest of them all. That she was special. That I am going to accord her all the respect she deserves. That I still can perform with my sore thighs. That I am an honest Man. I will put in honest work. I just needed her to allow me in spite of my earlier indiscretions. She kept cutting into my pleading monologue with 'usinibebe tu hivi hivi!'(Don't carry me cheaply like this!) 'Just because you have been with taller and slender ones does not mean you come here and do whatever you want with me...' She had a bit of an altitude, that made her even more attractive. After sometime, she seemed to soften; at first reluctantly but before long, she held my hand and looked deep into my pleading eyes. “I am in a good mood today, don't spoil it…if you know what I mean…”. I knew exactly what she meant! Shortly, her true beauty and character was revealed. Man! She is gorgeous; and flirty. She kept teasing endlessly. A very playful girl. What with all these false summits! Eventually, we embraced. We danced. We kissed. We knew each other. Quite intimately. We simply had fun. Lots of it. The kind of fun you don't want to end. Sadly, this was to be a brief affair. We had Kilimanjaro to deal with the following day; and this one is brutally honest! Her feedback is instant. Before I left I was curious to know something... He: “How could you tell? You know…the thigh thing?” She: “I am a thigh person. I can tell a lot from just feeling them” He: “Hmmmn” She: (Teasingly)“Next time start here. Better still, come we hang out. Without much hurry. What you have seen and experienced this time is nothing. I will do things to you…” He: “Ngai!!” (Dear Lord!) She: “Wewe enda ucome” (You go, then come back!) I will be back! For some quality time.
